DISTRICT PROJECT FOR TRAINING AND REHABILITATION OF THE DISABLED Introduction Idukki district remains to be really a backward high range hilly area and cut of from mainstream at Kerala State in all sectors of development and welfare of not only the disabled, but of all sections of people due to the geographic inaccessibility, remoteness and allied risk factors in reachability of the area. In this circumstances the training and the rehabilitation services to persons with disability are unimaginably unknown and unreached. In most of high range areas of this district, which comes to about 75% of the population. After extremely cautious and careful consideration and understanding of pathetic condition of the disabled, FAITH-INDIA has boldly ventured into this high risk service area, at least to extent an arm of hope and help in this district. However, our task is Herculean and very difficult which is to be taken along far and long to reach the goal. FAITH - INDIA Idukki District Project for Training and Rehabilitation of the Disabled needs to be kept very dynamic and to be preserved as an ever light lamp, for really saving thousands of unserved , unreached and untouched persons with disabilities. Services and activities Survey and identifications The Persons with Disabilities have been identified through surveys conducted by our staffs with assistance from FAITH-INDIA Crisis Intervention Service Project for the Handicapped. Rural camps This project has actively collaborated with FAITH-INDIA Placement Service and Crisis Intervention Service Project for organising camps in remote and inaccessible area of Idukki District. Training programs This project is running following training programs for persons with disabilities. Candle making, handicrafts, umbrella assembling, plastic wire flower making and repairing and maintenance of rehabilitation aids and appliances . Information and guidance A number of people with disabilities and relatives to the disabled approach us for various information and guidance with regard to matters related to vocational training, educational facilities, employment opportunities, self employment ventures, various concessions and assistance programs. We offer information and guidance service to these people. In maximum possible cases follow up services are also provided. |
