Introduction
FAITH-INDIA Institute for the Mentally
Handicapped has been providing special education, training and rehabilitation
services to the children with mental retardation since the year
1997-98. The institute being nonresidential, emphasizes on training
of Mentally Retarded and have kept trying to rehabilitate them in
their community itself Infrastructure and other resource constraints
have been always a factor, which imposes restrictions on the expansion
of coverages of more area of this coastal district. We continue
our effort with new initiatives untiringly for education of the
mentally retarded children through this project.
Specific activities and evaluation
Instead of a teacher engaging full time
one class in a full year, all teachers are engaged in all classes
on a interchange basis. So as to have a better sense experience
to children. Those self help skills, which have been refused by
the children to do at home were identified and practiced by the
children in this school. Moreover on the basis of selected goals
children are evaluated at the close of the year.
Pre - Vocational Skills and Co-curricular activities
Pre - Vocational skills such as Agarbathi
making, soap making, envelop making, cover making, stitching and
cultural skills like dance and music, sports and games are imparted
to the children.

Parents Teachers Association
The Parents Teachers Association of the
school involve in all activities of the school. PTA has been assisting
the management in conduct of observance of various days and other
community activities. regular meetings of PTA are conducted. All
Parents of the children of the school are convened to interact with
each other and review physical and mental progress status of their
children.
Home Visits
Teachers and other staff of the school
visits homes of all students for a direct interaction with parents
and community. Their visits also helps to understand the development
in the children as a result of training and practices in the school
and also to assess how well such skills and practices are continued
at home during vacations and followed up by the parents.
The team
A team of Staff consisting of 9 members
serves the school under the direction and guidance from the President
and Director General of FAITH-INDIA . Members of Staff are Principal,
Special Educators, Special Subject Teachers and other general staffs
like
L.D.C, Ayah, Chowkidar, Sweeper etc.
Apart from above said regular staff Guest faculties such as Physiotherapist,
speech therapist, Psychologist and Rehabilitation Social worker
regularly visit the school assess the children and do give necessary
intervention.
